Before you begin
- ChatGPT on the web; custom MCP apps are not currently available on mobile
- Developer mode enabled for the applicable account or workspace

- Administrator or owner rights when a workspace app must be published
Confirm the current plan and workspace permissions
ChatGPT Pro can connect custom MCP apps with read and fetch permissions in developer mode. Full write or modify actions are currently available only to Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces. Custom MCP apps are available on ChatGPT web, not mobile.
Enable developer mode on the web
Follow the current OpenAI plan-specific path. Business administrators create and publish from workspace app settings. Enterprise/Edu administrators can grant developer access and manage actions with workspace controls. Menu names can change during beta.
Create a custom app with the hosted endpoint
Use the remote Quote.Trade URL. ChatGPT does not connect directly to a local MCP server. For a private, on-premises, or developer-machine server, OpenAI documents Secure MCP Tunnel.

Review the tools ChatGPT discovers
Published apps may retain a reviewed snapshot of tool definitions. Enterprise/Edu administrators can refresh and manage actions; Business may require recreation and republication after tool or metadata changes. Re-scan after every MCP schema change.
Test a public market-data action
Call status, exchange information, instruments, ticker, or depth. Ask ChatGPT to identify the tool and the returned source. On Pro, use only the read and fetch actions supported by the current plan.
Enable live actions only where the workspace supports them
In Business or Enterprise/Edu, enable only required actions. ChatGPT confirmation supplements but does not replace Quote.Trade’s exact approval text and server-side account, symbol, notional, leverage, and credential controls.
Common problems and fixes
Developer mode is not visible
Confirm the current plan, role, workspace policy, and that you are using ChatGPT on the web.
New MCP tools are missing
Refresh or republish the app as allowed by the plan. Published tool definitions may be a reviewed snapshot.

Can Pro place a live order through custom MCP?
Current OpenAI documentation limits Pro custom MCP use to read/fetch. Full MCP is currently Business and Enterprise/Edu.
Can I connect a localhost server?
Not directly. Use the hosted Quote.Trade endpoint or OpenAI Secure MCP Tunnel for a private/local server.
